Erin M. Lum is a Vice President of Empire Search Partners. Erin concentrates on consulting attorneys of all levels across a range of practice areas, with particular expertise in the area of bankruptcy and restructuring.
Before joining Empire Search Partners, Erin was a Managing Director in the High Yield Department at Bear, Stearns & Co. Inc. Erin also practiced as a bankruptcy and business restructuring attorney at Ropes & Gray LLP and at Kelley Drye & Warren LLP, each in New York.
At Bear Stearns, Erin worked on the distressed trading desk where she negotiated and resolved trade related issues with counterparties and coordinated numerous purchases and sales of domestic and international distressed assets, including commercial debt and bankruptcy claims. While practicing law, Erin represented and advised corporate debtors, chapter 11 trustees and secured and unsecured creditors, including creditors committees, lenders, landlords, holders of public debt securities and purchasers of distressed assets within the bankruptcy context.
Prior to attending law school, Erin worked as a news reporter at KUAM Island News, Guam’s NBC affiliate news station and Pacific Daily News, a Gannett Corporation newspaper. Erin also worked as an English Instructor and Lecturer at Zhanjiang Normal University in Zhanjiang, People’s Republic of China. At the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Erin was a member of the Guam Olympic Team, and competed in the sport of Judo.
Erin received her J.D. from the University of Hawaii Law School, where she was Board Member and Recent Developments Editor of the University of Hawaii Law Review. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame.
